A strange, uncertain, worrying time

We have all been asked to change our lifestyles completely, within the past week. For some on the front line, this means significantly more work, living separate from their family, worried about their own protection from the virus whilst dedicating every fibre of their being to their work. From doctors and nurses to farmers and delivery drivers, chemists and shop workers, social care staff and journalists, it's far from business as usual. In some of their workplaces, we've seen incredible moments of sacrifice and comraderie, in other places they have faced abuse from members of the public, who are blaming them for anything and everything. Meanwhile, many in our society are struggling to get the basic necessities of life, while others panic buy far more than their families can eat. Some of us are working from home with children off school and others are facing day after day without seeing a soul. So many changes, with more likely to come, which is so difficult, and yet we know that this is the only way to curb the numbers of people being infected with this virus. The only way forward to support those on the front line is to stay home and keep safe, and in the essential encounters, to display patience, kindness, gratitude and good sense. There is a deep sense of loss pervading our society, which is a form of grief, whether we have lost someone to death, or felt our independence stripped away in a moment, and each aspect of this affects each individual differently. I encourage you to read this article, as well all learn to live with this new living, and to reach out to one another with a sense of understanding and compassion.
